A LEGACY OF LISTENING
A Spiritual Journal of Praises, Prayers, and Promises for Hearing God and Passing Faith Forward
About the Book
An Invitation to Listen
We live in a world filled with noise.
Our days are crowded with responsibilities, distractions, and competing demands for our attention. In the midst of all this activity, it can be difficult to slow down long enough to listen—to listen to God, to reflect on His Word, and to consider how His truth applies to our lives.
A Legacy of Listening is an invitation to do just that.
I created this journal to encourage a deeper fellowship with the Lord through regular Scripture reading and thoughtful reflection.
More than 250 Scripture passages, organized around praises, prayers and promises, provide the foundation for the journal. They are arranged in weekly sections, each followed by several blank pages for recording your thoughts and responses—your prayers, spiritual insights, moments when you sensed God’s presence, challenges, and answered prayers.
Over the years, you can revisit each weekly section, adding entries from different seasons of your life. These pages can become a living record of your walk with God, reminding you again and again of His presence, His guidance, and His unfailing love.
This is not a book to be hurried through. It is a companion for quiet moments.
A place to listen, a place to reflect, a place to pray, and perhaps above all, a place to draw closer to God.
Write for Today. Remember for Tomorrow. Leave a Legacy for Generations.
This journal can become the story of your faith journey.
One of the powerful ways to influence future generations is by sharing the lessons of our walk with God. Your story can eventually be read by your children and grandchildren and cherished as a family heirloom.
This is the call of Scripture:
Things we have heard and known…
we will not hide…
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders he has done.
So the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,
and they in turn would tell their children.
Then they would put their trust in God.
Psalm 78:3–4, 6–7

Encouragement to develop a regular spiritual discipline
My Prayer
My prayer is that this journal will serve two purposes.
First, I hope it will help you establish a rhythm of spending time with God—not simply reading Scripture but pausing long enough to listen and respond. God continues to speak to us through His Word and the Holy Spirit.
Second, I hope it will help you create a spiritual legacy. Through God’s providence, the reflections you record will contain wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration for those who come after you. What begins as a personal journal may become a cherished family legacy—a spiritual anchor passed from one generation to the next.
ENDORSEMENTS
“Many Bibles in America are nothing more than decorative dust-collectors.”
To benefit from His Word, we must immerse ourselves in it. In A Legacy of Listening, we are encouraged to silence the noise of the world and listen for the still, quiet voice of the Holy Spirit. It outlines important passages to be read and reflected on throughout the year and encourages journaling on our reflections. These writings can be referenced at future times in our lives. But there is a wonderful additional benefit: after we are gone, reflections journaled in A Legacy of Listening become a treasured resource for our children, grandchildren, and beyond.

“There are two things that many disciples lack: order and reflection.”
The resource that you hold in your hand facilitates both. Centered on abiding deeply in the Bible, this tool fosters reflection on Scripture through which the Lord may speak. As the Spirit interacts with the words He inspired and the disciple He indwells, I pray that God may deepen the understanding of Himself in the hearts of those who use A Legacy of Listening.

“Reflecting decades of Bible study, leading small groups, and faithful Christian living, A Legacy of Listening is both profound and easy to use.”
The carefully curated Scripture passages cover a wide range of transforming truths. My old friend Paul Lambert is a good teacher! He has incorporated basic principles of pedagogy into an apparently simple but remarkably skillful manual for spiritual growth.

“I have had the privilege of knowing Paul Lambert for several decades and have rejoiced in his intentional approach to living out the reality of Christ in a grace-filled, servant-oriented manner.”
This devotional will help readers understand what it means to live for the glory of God (Matthew 5:16). I heartily recommend it!
